Bangkok, Feb. 13 and 14, 2008
Up after a good nights sleep I decide to head off and see some of the sights of Bangkok. I get a local map and a card form the guesthouse good idea in case you get lost, it has the info in Thai as well).
The sktrain is a great way to get around town while avoiding Bangkok's crazy traffic. Bangkok is huge
(wikipedia link) . I decide to first visit the Siam Square area...the hub of shopping and businesss in Bangkok. The traffic and busy-ness is amazing.
I wander a bit, go to the MBK Center..a HUGE shopping complex....very confusing.I grab a cold drink and get a cab to the old city to see some more traditional sights!
NOTE:
DO NOT get into a taxi that will not use the meter!! Taxis in Bangkok are very cheap..but many drivers try to take advantage of tourists..insits upon it!! If they argue..leave and grab the next one.
Once down by the river, I sit for a bit and chat with a Thai man who is having difficulty reading an english newsmagazine. Then off to Wat Pho (or Wat Phra Chetphon) next to the Palace. Wat Pho hails from the 16th century and is ..well amazing.
