Day 6 Feb.9th, 2004 Monterrico
I decided that based on the terrible weather in Canada, I deserved a day or so at the beach, so I headed off for Monterrico. Monterrico is on the southern Pacific coast, near El Salvador. there are no direct busses, so the day was a long one Panajachel to Cocales, change to Esuintla, change again to Taxisco, and finally a pick-up truck to La Avellana. Basically though it went without a hitch. Chicken buses are a great way to get around!
From La Avellana, you have to take a lanch across the mangrove swamp (Q5). When I arrived there did not seem to be anyone else there, a launch guy offered to take me for Q50...but i soon hopped on with a truck into one of the open cargo boats, of course as soon as I did, a regular launch arrived...ah well, I like my truck-boat! They take almost anything across on these outboard driven launches...including chicken busses!!
Arriving at Monterrico one feels like belting out the theme to "Gilligan's Island" I imediately ran into a group of three travelers...from Montreal!! I spent the next few days with Francois, Yannick and Brigitte at Monterrico.
