Nicaragua 2005
I actually made 2 trips to Nicaragua in early 2005. The winter in Canada was getting me down and so (as usual) I scoured the "net" for cheap airfare to somewhere warm, found a great deal to Managua and took off for a week. Little was I to know that I would be back again less than a month later for a 2 week stint....call it karma, coincidence or whatever, the cast of characters I met have since become like a second family to me, and Nicaragua is definitely calling me back.
I landed at Managua's airport on an Air Transat charter and was the ONLY person to NOT board a bus to some all inclusive resort at Montelimar. 364 people on board and I alone was left trying to find some cordobas and a way to Granada.  Now you would figure with an airbus arriving that the bank kiosk would be open...but no, so I changed some $ with a shop keeper, and managed to find a cab to the Huembes Bust station...and a chicken bus to Granada, about 1 hour away.
I arrivied in Granada and found my way to the Oasis Hostal  (
www.nicaraguahostel.com) took a much needed shower and set out to explore. Granada reminds me of Antigua, Guatemala..very colonial, although slightly more run down. I had been conversing with a resident online and decided to give him a call, he'd been very helpful with some planning and I had offered to meet up for a beer.
Little was I to know that that fateful call was to change my whole plan of action for not only the week ahead, but the spring of 2005!!

February 3rd, 2005
The week I was to spend in Nicaragua in February and the two weeks in March have ended up being kind of a blurr of activity, silliness, fun and helping out. So unlike my previous entires I will arrange this page, not chronologically, but by anecdote and event. The logical starting place is Bobby...a great guy and now a great friend, and the story continues from there.
